Camp Opportunity Statement on the Texas Hill Country Tragedy

We are heartbroken by the tragic flooding that has devastated communities in the Texas Hill Country, including beloved camps such as Camp Mystic, Heart O’ the Hills, and others. As members of the larger camp community, we feel this loss deeply.

At Camp Opportunity, we believe camp is more than just a place—it’s a refuge, a family, and a source of joy and healing for children. When one camp is impacted by tragedy, we all feel the weight of it. The heartbreak of losing campers, staff, and sacred spaces is felt far beyond Texas. It touches every camp that has ever welcomed a child with open arms and every person who has ever found belonging beneath the trees and stars.

We stand in solidarity with the camps, campers, families, and staff affected by this unimaginable loss. Our thoughts are with each of you, and our hearts are alongside yours in grief and support.

In the days and weeks to come, we hope the strength of the camp community will bring comfort and connection. We remain committed to walking beside our fellow camps as we all find our way forward—together.

With love and solidarity,
Camp Opportunity
